Tips For a Healthier Gym Environment

If you own or run a gym, you know that doing everything possible to help safeguard the health of your patrons is not just good business: it's the right thing to do. Gyms and health club environments are ripe for the spread of viruses like the common cold or even H1N1, so the cleaner and more hygienic you can keep it on a daily basis, the better. Here are some tips.

--Washing towels: Many gyms provide towels to their members as an attractive benefit. Make sure when laundering that you use the hottest water possible along with bleach to eradicate any remaining germs. Make sure to empty soiled towel bins regularly during the day as these receptacles tend to become breeding grounds if left unchecked.

--Disinfect equipment more often: A thorough after-hours cleaning of all machines, dumbbells, mats, etc. is a must. But having employees clean throughout the day is even better. The easiest way to accomplish this task is through the use of pre-moistened disinfectant wipes made especially for gym use. Your employees will be more willing and easier able to clean if the process is made easier.

--Keep disinfectant on hand for patrons: Most patrons take responsibility themselves for making sure their equipment is clean before and after use, so make it easy for them to do so. Having paper towel dispensers throughout the gym along with disinfectant spray reminds patrons of the importance of cleaning and makes the process quick and convenient. In lieu of spray bottles, you can use pre-moistened gym wipes instead.

Excellent cleaning practices are the key to maintaining a top-notch gym. It's worth the effort and your patrons will be extremely appreciative that you care.
